Essential evidence you should collect after a car accident

On Behalf of | Dec 9, 2024 | Auto accident injuries

If you are involved in a car accident in North Carolina, the first thing to tend to is yourself–your body and mind, ensuring that you are safe and were not injured.

If you were injured, you must seek medical assistance immediately. After you ensure medical help is coming, if you are able to do so, gathering evidence to build you case is valuable and in many cases, crucial to the outcome of your car accident case.

Types of evidence you should collect

  • Photos and videos of the scene of the accident
  • Contact information for any witnesses and people involved in the accident
  • Insurance information of all people involved in the accident
  • A copy of the police report that you or someone must file after the accident
  • A copy of your medical records
  • Any post-accident reconstruction information
  • Any letters from insurance companies
  • Personal notes, things you remember, etc.

While it sounds like a lot, most of it is done naturally at the scene of the accident, while you are waiting for the ambulance, at the doctor’s office or at home. Do not stress if you missed something. Simply let your attorney know and they may be able to get that information.

Help is available

Being in an accident is a difficult experience and you may wonder how you will get through the accident and collecting the necessary evidence. If you cannot do this for medical reasons, you can ask someone to help you gather that information for you.
